Work Shop III.A - CCSF Summer 2004
Instructors: Narongwacha Broytubtim and Rosalin Moore
1. Overlapping. Carve only one half of the first petal. Shave to round underneath the first petal before starting the second petal. Visualize a second pleated petal. Cut a small notch at the middle of the edge. Carve the second petal. 2. Shave to round underneath the second petal. Notch the edge of the third petal before carving it.
This picture shows straight inside cuts. You may choose to curve the inside cuts of the petal for softer looks.
4. Make the inside cut to complete the first petal. Round the center and carve few small petals as appropriate.
3. Continue to carve more petals. Leave a small space between the last completed petal and the "half" first petal.
     Shave to round the
outside of the first petal until it curves under the last petal.
6. Finish the last petal before the first. Then shave the remainder of the first petal to fit behind  the last petal.
5. Start an open layer of petals with an unfinished first petal. You may choose to overlap the petals only 1/5 of the petal width instead of 1/2 as shown.
8. Concentrate on clean cuts to carry out your creation. Take time to enjoy your work-in-progress.
7. The second layer of open petals does not need to overlap. Experiment with different cuts to give the depth and the curls.

Add-ons. Buds, smaller flowers, different flowers, and leaves.
